Masatoshi Nakayama
(中山正敏,
Nakayama Masatoshi,
1913–1987) was a
high-ranking master of
Shotokan
karate-dō the first
who achieved the rank of
10th
dan.
Nakayama was born in
the
Yamaguchi prefecture.
He began studying karate
after enrolling in
Takushoku University
in 1932, where he
trained under
Gichin Funakoshi and
Funakoshi's son
Gigo.
In 1949 Nakayama
founded the
Japan Karate Association
with
Gichin Funakoshi as
head instructor, and
began to restructure the
training by following
methods developed in
modern
sports sciences. He
established
kata and
kumite as
tournament disciplines.
Students of the large
JKA-Dojos
subsequently achieved an
unequaled series of
tournament successes in
the 1950s and 1960s.
Nakayama is also known
for having worked to
spread
shotokan karate
throughout the world.
Together with
Funakoshi
sensei, he formed
the
JKA instructor
trainee program. The
highly trained graduates
of this program went
around the world to
found new
shotokan
dojos in hundreds of
different countries.
Sensei Takemasa Okuyama

Master Okuyama is the
head of the
International Karate
Association of
Canada
and has the
Kancho title.
In 1960 he started to
study at the
Takushoku University,
which became famous all
around the world because
of training the best
Shotokan karate
instructors.
He studied political
science and foreign
trade, regularly
training karate with
masters: Sensei
Masatoshi Nakayama,
Tabata, Hamanaka and
Tsuyama.
In 1966 he arrived in
the
USA
to continue his studies
and started to train
under the instruction of
master
Takayuki Kubota.
Having recognized him as
the greatest of the
encountered karate
masters he remains
faithful to him up to
this day.
In 1970 he moved to
Canada, where he is
the most important
person in the
Gosoku-ryu and
Shotokan karate
fighters environment.
In 1992 master Kubota
awarded him with the
Kancho title and 8
dan degree in
karate.

Sensei Zvonko Celebija
is the Direct student of
Sensei Takemasa Okuyama
since he arrived in Canada in the 1960’s and holds 7th
Dan Black Belt.
He
is only one of the two
referee’s from Canada to be
certified by WKF and Pan
American games. He is
also the Chief Referee
of Karate Ontario
Governing Body of Karate
in the Province of
Ontario, Canada.
Recently he was
presented with THE SYL
APPS SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT
AWARD which is presented
annually by the
Province
of
Ontario
to Ontario volunteers who have contributed to
the development of sport
in the province. Sensei
Zvonko Celebija received
this prestigious award
at the ceremony on April
24, 2008. The only other
person from karate sport
that received this award
was Sensei Masami
Tsuruoka in 1980.
He
was also the personal
Body guard of the 1st
and 2nd
President of Croatia.
Sensei Zvonko has
developed 100 of
students and created
world champions and is
well respected world
wide for his commitment
and development of
Karate do.

Sensei Sriram Rangan Has
been training Shotokan
Karate for the last 28
years and holds a 4th
Dan Black Belt from
Global Karate Do
Federation and currently
trains under Sensei
Zvonko Celebija, in Toronto
Canada.
He
is the Founder &
International Chief Tech
Director of Budo Martial
Arts Academy with
centers in
Canada
and
India,
and teaches Karate in
number of places in the
province
of
Ontario
and created number Black
Belts in
Canada
and India in the
last 20 plus years
years.
In
2007 Sensei Sriram was
given an award by Chief
Armand P.la barge
York regional
Pollice in recognition
of
his Contribution
to the development of
Martial arts in
Canada
for more than 15
Years. He has been
credit as being the
first Instructor to come
from
India
to
Canada
and teach Karate and
develop Karate Do.
His
students in
India
are conducting Classes
in Mumbai, Rajasthan, Delhi and Chennai, under the banner of Budo
Martial Arts Academy.
He
and his organization are
affiliated with Karate Ontario, National Karate
Association of Canada
and Global Karate Do
Federation. He is one of
the Commissioners of
Conflict Resolution of
Karate Ontario and has been part of the board for
the last 10 years. He
also hold a Class B
Referee from NKA and
Karate Ontario.
He
lives with his wife and
two son in Toronto, Canada.
